Nursery
Welcome to Rosebuds nursery for 3 and 4 year old children. Rosebuds Nursery is attached to Rosecroft Primary School and has been providing education and childcare for pre-school children since 2018. We have a modern and spacious nursery, with both indoor and outdoor provision. Our aim is to nurture children to be happy, confident, inquisitive and ready for school life.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework in England, that sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5. In our school, the EYFS team comprises both nursery and reception.
The EYFS framework covers 7 areas of development:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding The World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Throughout their time at Rosebuds, staff will work with your child to develop these areas, through engaging activities and experiences.
Every child learns differently and at different rates. We will identify how your child likes to learn by referring to the following Characteristics of Effective Learning:
- Active Learning
- Playing and Exploring
- Creating and Thinking Critically
At Rosebuds Nursery we work closely with the Rosecroft Primary School SENDCO to ensure early identification of Special Educational Needs, including speech and language needs. Staff are available to speak to daily on an informal basis, should you have any concerns regarding your child’s development.
8:45-8:55 – Children are welcomed in to nursery.
8:55-9:05 – Children participate in an educational carpet time, which will be based around one of the areas of learning mentioned above.
9:05-11:15 – Children are encouraged to explore the activities available to them during their “explorer time”, or free play. Activities provided are carefully thought out, in order to support the development needs of the children. Experienced staff engage with the children in their play to help further their understanding – the children are learning without knowing it!

The Government grants all children 15 hours funded nursery sessions per week, from the term after they turn 3, until they reach school age. In our nursery, this equates to 5 sessions (2.5 days).
If the parents meet the working conditions set out by the Government (typically working at least the equivalent of 16 hours a week at Minimum Wage), children may be eligible to receive 30 hours of funded nursery sessions per week (or 5 full days).
To find out if you are eligible, please visit Free Childcare for Working Parents: Overview - GOV.UK
Rosebuds offers high flexibility in how funded hours can be used. A child who receives 15 hours funded sessions could use them on any 5 sessions throughout the week, depending on availability of space. A parent may wish to send their child to nursery for 2 full days and 1 morning or afternoon session, or they may wish for them to attend a mixture of mornings and afternoons throughout the week.
Examples of use of 15 hours funding:
Example 1:
Monday 8:45-2:45 (2 sessions)
Wednesday 8:45-11:45 (1 session)
Friday 8:45-2:45 (2 sessions)
Example 2:
Monday 8:45-11:45 (1 session)
Tuesday 11:45-2:45 (1 session)
Wednesday 8:45-11:45 (1 session)
Thursday 8:45-2:45 (2 sessions)
A child who is eligible to receive 30 hours funding each week, can attend sessions up to full time, which is Monday to Friday from 8:45-2:45, without incurring extra costs other than our consumables fee.
There is an option to extend the nursery day to 3:15, which is payable at £4 for the half hour.
Rosebuds nursery runs termly open afternoons, at which you and your child can look around the nursery and ask staff any questions you may have. If you decide that Rosebuds would be a good fit for your child, you can make an application to join and sign paperwork. Towards the end of the term before your child is due to start Rosebuds, they will be invited for an hour-long stay and play session during which they can explore independently and get to know the staff and children in the setting. Sessions would then start for your child at the beginning of the new term.
We understand that starting nursery can be daunting for children and carers alike. If a child is struggling to separate from their parent or carer, we are keen to work with parents and are able to build up session lengths gradually over the first few sessions, to aid this transition.

At Rosebuds, we use Tapestry to upload observations of children. This is to aid us in effectively assessing your child’s progress throughout their time with us. We also send out a weekly newsletter via Tapestry, to keep you informed about our learning.
